President's Message

Winter 2010

For this triennium, we are following the theme of “Keys to Success.”  What are the Keys to Success?  I think one of the most important keys is knowing where you are going.  You must have an end result in mind – a goal.  Write down your goals.  Look at them often.  Post them where you can see them.  What will you have to do to reach your goals?   And remember to break those goals into baby steps.  Right now, for those still in college, your main goal is to graduate and get a job.  Many of the rest of us are counting the years to retirement.  We are at opposite ends of the spectrum.  What we have in common is the student – to provide the best education we can for every child in our classrooms.  Hang on to that goal.  Let that be one of your “keys.”  You should also have goals in your chapters – perhaps an increase in membership or making others more aware of what KDE is about on your campus.

Another word that comes to mind is perseverance.  If we don’t stick to a goal until its completion, does that mean we have failed?  The key is what have we learned in the process.  If we have learned that the original plan was not working and have gone a different route, we will have succeeded in the long run.  If your chapter is struggling, please let your national officers know.  We need to work together so that every chapter is strong.

Webster defines success as “the extent of succeeding: as, what success did he have?; a favorable result; the gaining of wealth, fame, etc

We want to know from YOU what you consider a success.  What have you done to make yourself feel successful?  And maybe what teacher instilled in you the feeling of success and how.  What do you consider the success of your chapter?  What makes your KDE chapter a success on your campus? We will be featuring your articles in the CURRENT.   Send your stories in to me at Lynda@edgoodwinassociates.com or to the Editor of the CURRENT at dsmith15@bellsouth.net.

Fraternally,

Lynda Goodwin
